Dima Bondarev Quartet

Dima Bondarev – trumpet, flugelhorn
Otto Hirte – saxofones, alt clarinet
Felix Henkelhausen – bass
Ludwig Wandinger – drums

Dima Bondarev Quartet is one of the brightest examples of how versatile cultures, music trends, and mindsets united and driven by the universal power of jazz can take shape of an offbeat, well-balanced and exquisite formation. The band members, each with a pool of experience under the belt, met in 2013 when the leader moved to Berlin on a quest for fresh expressions and interactions. The Jazz Institute Berlin became the cradle of this group. Ludwig Wandinger on drums and Felix Henkelhausen on bass started the rhythm engine. Otto Hirte laced the tunes on sax and alto clarinet, while Dima Bondarev on trumpet (UA) adds the final touches that let the band’s soft and vibrant soul be heard at full blast.

While reflecting on the band’s lifetime, Dima says: “A while back I could think it’s a big deal to form a jazz group. However, with these guys everything flows naturally. Every musician is a planet with the unbeaten track and integrally we’re a coherent universe comfortably interacting with each other. So much more to discover and create in this stellar fusion!”

Practically Married + João Lopes Pereira

James and Declan have been ‘Practically Married’ since April 2015, a name proudly awarded to them due to their ability to spend time together almost every day with only minor frustrations, and the fact that they play almost every concert together. To honour and celebrate this, they are excited to be curating and performing a monthly concert series at the very special place where their relationship originally bloomed – Donau115! Since the honeymoon phase is over, each month in 2018 will feature a different special guest to spice things up. Come one come all!

Declan Forde – Piano
James Banner – Bass
João Lopes Pereira – Drumsão-Lopes-Pereira

For the first concert of the series, Practically Married are joined by drummer João Lopes Pereira.

He is currently a very active musician playing all over the world, and has worked with artists such as Jacob Sacks, Mário Laginha, Jose Carra, Albert Sanz, Jorge Rossy, Jeffery Davis, Chris Cheek, John Ellis, Pedro Moreira, Enrique Oliver, Perico Sambeat, Ricardo Toscano, Ernesto Aurignac, Maria João, Sara Serpa, André Fernandes, André Matos, Bruno Santos, Jaume Llombart, André Santos, Peter Bernstein, Demian Cabaud, Masa Kamaguchi, Nelson Cascais, Bernardo Moreira, João Hasselberg, DJ Foster, João Moreira, Gonçalo Marques, Félix Rossy, Vinnie Sperrazza, among others. Lena Sundermeyer – voc/comp
Matthias Grote – git/comp
Jo Aldinger – organ
Mathias Ruppnig – drums

Donau Conversations is a monthly concert series presented by Berlin-based drummer Mathias Ruppnig. Each event will feature groups of varying styles and personnel, performing jazz standards, original music or free improvisation.

“For me, Donau115 is a place that allows new musical and personal friendships to form, as well as a place to experiment with innovative musical concepts in front of a respectful and attentive audience.“
